Having spent my career in both the pharmaceutical and capital markets industries, I eventually got the opportunity to fulfill a life goal and pursue an MBA at my dream school. I came away with a great education, incredible experiences, and life lasting relationships but also a significant amount of student debt. When I started to pay back my loans I realized I had to go to a number of websites from my multiple providers to pull up all my individual student loan accounts. That fragmented process couldn’t give me a quick and accurate snapshot of all that I still owed. That’s when the idea to build a tool to satisfy that pain point began. I hope that AlumSum addresses that need for you to view all your highlighted student loan information in one place while providing helpful information to cut down the time and interest off of paying down your student debt.

I have spent my career in pharmaceutical, capital markets and advertising industries. My focus over the past 10+ years has been on Software Engineering, building large throughput, scalable applications. Although I have been fortunate enough to be on scholarships as an undergraduate and I paid for my MBA, I have witnessed close family members struggling with managing their student loans. The primary point of pain had been lack of a centralized access to all different loans. This is one of the main issues that we are trying to solve.

I’m a curious tech tinkerer and gadget guy at heart. While finishing up my graduate degree, my inner entrepreneur got the best of me and I co-founded a startup building mobile applications for Chicagoland chambers of commerce. Bootstrapping a startup, I was conscious of my personal finances, and I distinctly remember the frustration of not having a clear picture of my loan situation. After closing the startup, I led design efforts at an Emergency Management consulting firm. I ultimately returned to the tech world and doubled down on UX design, where I’ve been building digital experiences since.

Music and academia have always been my two greatest passions, and I spent most of my adult life pursuing them as a working musician and working in a library. However, after years of living paycheck to paycheck, I knew I needed a change, and tech was the answer. I went to a coding bootcamp and was fortunate enough to get a great job not too long afterwards. Both the bootcamp and years of low-paying jobs left me with a lot of debt. It was also accompanied by a complete lack of understanding about how student loans work and an acute understanding of how much they can affect people’s lives. What drew me to join the AlumSum team was a desire to help people by empowering them with the knowledge to make the best financial decisions they possibly can, so they can have the best quality of life possible.
